Every school timetable is different so it's up to you how the day is arranged, however, here are some things that might help.

1. I aim to arrive at school between 8.15 and 8.30

(this allows me time to park, bring my things into school and meet staff etc but please let me know if you would like me there sooner)

2. If you would like me to start the day with a whole school assembly, I'm happy to do so. In this, I would introduce myself and tell a silly story.

For an assembly, I suggest allowing 25 to 30 minutes.

(This gives everyone time to enter and leave the hall, and time for me to do what I do.)

3. I can then spend time with all of the classes in school - or with selected classes/year groups - depending on what you want from the day, and the type of session.

For performance and storytelling sessions I recommend:

25-30 mins for Nursery

30 mins-45 mins for Reception

45 mins for Yrs 1 and 2

(some can be grouped together - or in seperate sessions)

60 mins for Yrs 3, 4, 5 and 6

(you might like 3 & 4, together, then 5 & 6 together)

The morning could be split between a whole school assembly, followed by sessions with Foundation and KS1

The afternoon could then be spent with

years 3 and 4, then years 5 and 6

(this is just an example and I'm more than happy to fit in with your school day.)

It doesn't matter what order sessions are in, but you may need to take into account the availability of rooms when organising a timetable - (is time needed to allow the hall to be cleared or set up for dinner etc?)

Performance Sessions can take place in classrooms or in the hall/library etc.

Writing based sessions really need to be in a classroom unless there are suitable tables available.

Please let children and adults know that I am coming before the visit, and highlight my website so they can find out a little about me and what I do. This helps generate more interest and excitement before the visit - it can also help them think of questions they might like to ask on the day.

I am more than happy for staff to take photographs or video recordings, and for them to be used on social media or the school website.

Please don't hesitate to email or call if there is anything I can help with.

The aim of my school visits isn't to sell books, however, I always have a selection with me in case anyone would like to purchase any to have signed as a momento.
